RECIPE | Raw Bone Marrow Custard
This ones not for the faint hearted. I’ve shared this with quite a few people now and all have been pleasantly surprised as to how delicious it actually is. The hard part is getting over the initial yuck factor that goes with raw marrow, in fact I still find a lot of people are put off at the thought of cooked marrow. Ancient tribes thrived off of raw marrow and it was often the first thing that was eaten when a beast was hunted. This recipe combines some other ingredients to make it more palatable for people just getting into marrow. Because all the ingredients are raw the nutrient profile and enzymatic activity is un-altered. Being so nutrient dense this is not something you need a lot of, you will be well and truly nourished with a small 200-300mL serving. I have to give credit to Raw Paleo Melissa who first introduced me to this and I’ve adapted the recipe from her.
Ingredients:
1 x long beef bone (sawed longitudinally, ask your butcher to do this)
4 x eggs
4 TBS raw butter (if you cannot get raw or cultured butter standard butter will suffice)
4 x bananas
2 TBS raw honey
Procedure:
In a Vitamix or high speed blender add all the ingredients and blend until smooth consistency. Pour into small jars, refrigerate until cool. Enjoy. I personally have these on their own just like eating any other custard or pudding.
